Education is a fundamental need of human life. This fact is brought to life at the Ahmedabad International Book Festival. Organized by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and the National Book Trust (NBT), this book festival features a special initiative by NBT: a mobile bus. As part of this special campaign, the bus is being sent to every corner of Ahmedabad, helping people to connect with the literacy movement and contributing to increased educational awareness.

The National Book Trust (NBT) mobile bus is an innovative initiative aimed at encouraging book lovers and expanding the culture of reading. NBT is an organization operating under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, which works to promote literature and expand its reach to the public. NBT has published books in over 65 languages, including Gujarati. In Ahmedabad, the bus has been sent to various villages in different talukas such as Ranpur and Dhandhuka, as well as schools and colleges.

The NBT mobile bus functions as a traveling library with a collection of books in various languages. This bus motivates people to read through educational activities, book exhibitions, and reading-related programs. Especially in rural and remote areas, this bus plays a significant role in ensuring the availability of books and promoting reading.

The bus carries a treasure trove of books for young children, educational books for youth, and entertaining and knowledge-enhancing books for adults. The primary objective of this initiative is to increase easy access to literature and knowledge and to foster an interest in reading among people.

It is noteworthy that the mobile bus has traveled to various talukas and rural areas in Ahmedabad. On December 5, the bus will visit CEPT College, on December 6, it will be at the Secretariat, on December 7, it will go to the Infocity Campus, and on December 8, it will be at IIT, Gandhinagar.

The mobile bus was initially launched on an experimental basis and a permanent arrangement was established

The inspiration behind NBT’s mobile bus was to deliver literature to areas where traditional libraries were not available. The objective of this initiative was to provide educational literature, children’s books, and other inspirational material to the public. The mobile bus project was launched more than 25 years ago in Rajasthan. Over time, this initiative has been expanded to rural areas.

How does the mobile bus operate?

Collection of books: The bus carries books in various Indian languages for readers of all ages and interests. Travel schedule: The buses are sent on specific routes that include schools, villages, and urban areas.

Community engagement: Along with books, the bus hosts reading sessions, literary workshops, and discussions to connect with people. Collaboration: This project becomes more effective when it is carried out in cooperation with local educational institutions, NGOs, and government bodies.
