Gati Shakti and Monash Uni. Sign MoU to Enhance Railway Engineering Research and Education

Joint Research Lab and Executive Training Programs to be Developed through Partnership between GSV and Monash Institute of Railway Technology

Vadodara,  Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Monash University, Australia, in New Delhi. The agreement aims to facilitate collaboration in joint research, education, and executive training in railway engineering through the Monash Institute of Railway Technology (IRT).

The MoU was signed between Professor Craig Jeffrey,Deputy Vice-Chancellor-International and Senior Vice-President, Monash University and Professor Manoj Choudhary,Vice-Chancellor, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya. Dr Monica Kennedy, Minister Commercial and Head of Austrade South Asia, hosted the event at the Australian High Commission at New Delhi.

The establishment of a joint research lab focussed on advanced technological railway engineering will be explored together with opportunities for collaboration on future industrial projects that will return mutual benefits to both parties and to advance Australian and Indian railway systems. Joint educational programs and executive training shall be another important collaboration area.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Craig Jeffrey highlighted “I am delighted for Monash University to be partnering with GSV, India’s first University in the Transportation and Logistics sectors. Monash IRT is continuously developing new technologies to support increasing productivity and safety requirements at the same time as reducing risks and costs. The Institute has an established track record in solving railway related technical issues, and its solutions have been adopted by railway systems throughout the world. This new partnership between Monash IRT and GSV is a further expansion of Monash’s engagement with India.”

Professor Manoj Choudhary mentioned “GSV is an industry-driven and innovation-led University with a relevant mandate to significantly impact national development through the transportation and logistics sectors. Railways is the life-line of the country’s transportation sector, and with rapid technological advancements, the railways sector is undertaking a transformative journey towards Viksit Bharat. We have much in common with Monash University, a research-intensive university that works with leading institutions and industry for global impact”

Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), Vadodara was established through an Act of Parliament in 2022, for creating best in class manpower and talent for the entire transportation and logistics sectors. This Central University is sponsored by the Ministry of Railways, Govt. of India and has Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics and IT as its First Chancellor.

GSV is a “first of its kind” university aiming to fulfill the mandate of the National Developmental Plans (PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan 2021 and National Logistics Policy 2022) across railways, aviation, shipping, ports, highways, roads, and waterways etc. The university’s programs are designed in collaboration with industry experts to ensure practical relevance and cutting-edge education.

Senior officials from the Monash University Australia, Ministry of Railways, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Austrade, DFCCIL, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation were present at the MOU signing event, marking a collaborative effort towards advancing the railway engineering capabilities.
