GLS University Hosts Readathon to Foster Love for Reading
Ahmedabad, GLS University’s Faculty of Commerce, under the auspice of Word Wizards – The English and Reading Club, hosted Readathon competition. This month-long event was judged by Miss Khushi Maheshwari, an esteemed alumni of the institute. The vision behind the Readathon was to foster a deeper appreciation for reading and encourage meaningful engagement with books. Through this event, the aim was not only to celebrate literary enthusiasm but also to cultivate a lasting love for reading among students.
Students selected a diverse array of books to share their insights, each bringing a unique perspective to the discussion. Forum Shah delved into Dan Brown’s Origin, exploring its intricate blend of art, history, and futuristic technology. She highlighted how the novel’s thrilling plot raises profound questions about the humanity. Tanisha Patel’s presentation on The One Minute Manager showcased its practical, efficient techniques for effective management. She emphasized how the book’s concise strategies can transform leadership and productivity in any organization.
Khushboo Kriplani’s discussed on “The Psychology of Money” explored into the complex interplay between financial decisions and emotional behavior. She highlighted how the book provides a nuanced understanding of wealth and success, offering valuable insights into managing money effectively while considering psychological factors.
Alisha Lakhani brought to life Chetan Bhagat’s Two States, a humorous and touching narrative about the cultural challenges faced by a couple from different regions in India. Her presentation focused on the book’s exploration of intercultural relationships, highlighting the blend of romance and societal issues that make the story both entertaining and relatable. Mahima Kriplani provided a compelling analysis of The Untold Story of Sita, which reimagines the life of the iconic character from the Ramayana.
She discussed how the book presents Sita’s story from a modern perspective, shedding light on her strength, resilience, and the complexities of her role, offering a fresh and empowering narrative. Ayush Kaurani’s delivered an engaging presentation on Out of the Box by Harsha Bhogle a book that explores creativity and innovation in the world of sports and beyond. He highlighted how Bhogle’s insights challenge traditional thinking, encouraging readers to adopt fresh perspectives and unconventional strategies to excel in their fields and overcome obstacles.
Miss Maheshwari was profoundly impressed by the exceptional presentations delivered by all participants. She provided valuable feedback on enhancing presentation skills, advising students to avoid overcrowding their slides with excessive data. She emphasized the importance of not merely reading from the slides, but instead, using body language and voice modulation to captivate and engage the audience.
Additionally, she reminded students to maintain eye contact and not turn their backs to the audience, ensuring a more dynamic and interactive presentation experience. To conclude the session on an insightful note Miss Maheshwari encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones and embrace new challenges. She emphasized that it’s perfectly fine to fail and make mistakes at this stage, as their college years represent a unique opportunity to experiment and grow before transitioning into the corporate world. She highlighted that this period is crucial for building resilience and discovering their true potential.
The entire event was coordinated by the student organizing committee of Faculty of Commerce under the able guidance of Dr. Gitanjali Rampal and Dr. Bhumika Ansodaria.
