GRE can enable US Education dream as demand for US Education hits peak

American universities attract a large number of Indian students, last year alone, the US consular team in India issued over 1,40,000 student visas. This is more than in any other country in the world, setting a record for the third year in a row. This year again as UK, Canada and Australia tighten visa and other regulations, US has emerged as a hope for Indian study abroad aspirants.

US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti informed media last month in a public interaction that American universities provided an exceptional environment for students, including those from India, offering enriching experiences. His statement came close to a report shared by ETS, a global assessment organization, which stated that India has overtaken US this year by the number of students to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) each year.

GRE is the ultimate gateway for Indian students aiming to secure admissions in prestigious US universities. The test is known for its comprehensive evaluation of a candidate’s verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills. GRE is a crucial determinant in the admission process and over 100,000 students from India take this test.

Commenting on this trend, Sachin Jain, Country Manager – India & South Asia, ETS said “The GRE General Test helps admissions committees of universities in getting a more complete picture of the applicants’ strength areas by providing information about relevant skills. Globally, about 400,000 GRE tests are administered every year for admission to programs in law, management, STEM, and other professional courses”. He added “GRE scores are valid for 5 years and now with the shorter version of GRE available, the test is less stressful and more student friendly than ever. Additionally, ETS also has TOEFL which is a test of English proficiency that is accepted by 100% of the institutions in the US and by over 12500 institutions worldwide”

A significant benefit of GRE is its global recognition by universities worldwide, making it the top choice for test takers aspiring to pursue higher education in the US.

Speaking on the growing popularity of American universities, Abhijit Zaveri, Founder & Director, Career Mosaic, said, “The United States has been a top choice for Indian students for decades now, and despite the emergence of new destinations, studying there remains aspirational. We expect that the US will continue to issue the highest number of study visas to Indian students in the near to mid-term. General tests like TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, Duolingo, IELTS, and others can help students successfully apply to American universities.” He further added, “The U.S. is considered a strong and stable choice for students due to its world-class institutions and well-established academic infrastructures.”

GRE provides flexibility in test dates and locations, allowing candidates to align testing schedules with their academic and personal commitments. This flexibility enables students to strategically plan their academic journey and improve their chances of admission to desired universities.
