Government corporates and NGOs join hands to work together for improving road safety

New Delhi, We, the Coalition Partners for Road Safety, agree to collaborate and work together to promote and improve road safety scenarios in the country. This Agreement being signed on 20th day of October 2023, is a commitment made by all partners involved in road safety to work together towards the common goal of reducing road accidents and creating safer road environments. The agreement outlines the following key principles and actions:

1. Shared Responsibility: All partners acknowledge that road safety is a shared responsibility and commit to actively contribute to the improvement of road safety.

2. Data Collection and Analysis: Partners agree to collect and analyze accurate and reliable data on road accidents, injuries, and fatalities to identify trends, risk factors, and areas of improvement.

3. Education and Awareness: Partners commit to raising public awareness about road safety through educational campaigns, training programs, and dissemination of information on safe driving practices. We further commit to enhancing road safety culture of all young road users through road safety education in schools and awareness programmes. Besides through road safety films and anthems.

4. Safe Infrastructure Development: Reiterate our will to ensure the safety and protection of all road users through safer road infrastructure and proper safety assessment in planning design, construction and maintenance of roads. Partners agree to collaborate in the planning, design, and maintenance of road infrastructure to ensure that it meets safety standards and addresses specific road safety challenges.

5. Enforcement of Traffic Laws: Partners commit to enforcing traffic laws and regulations effectively, including measures to deter over speeding, drunken driving, and other risky behaviours.

6. Vehicle Safety: Partners agree to promote the use of safe vehicles by encouraging the adoption of safety features, regular maintenance, and compliance with vehicle safety standards.

7. Vulnerable Road Users: With the concern for the safety of Vulnerable Road Users, especially children, cyclists, two wheelers, occupying a place of priority in our agenda, we commit to adopt, implement and enforce policies and measures to actively protect vulnerable road users and promote cycling.

8. Emergency Response: Partners commit to improving emergency response systems to ensure timely and effective medical assistance to accident victims.

9. Research and Innovation: Partners agree to support research and innovation in road safety, including the development of new technologies, policies, and practices to reduce road traffic accidents and their severity. Recognise the importance that the use of technology and intelligent transport systems can assist road safety and sustainable mobility.

10. Funds Mobilisation: Commit to support in mobilisation of funding through dedicated National and Local Road Safety Funds, UN Road Safety Fund and Corporate CSR to support in the consistent undertaking of the programmes of the Coalition and implementation of the corrections.

11. Collaboration and Coordination: Partners commit to regular communication, collaboration for drawing up programmes, and coordination to share best practices, exchange information, and align efforts towards common road safety objectives.

12. Monitoring and Evaluation: Partners agree to monitor and evaluate the progress of road safety initiatives, using key performance indicators and benchmarks to assess the effectiveness of interventions.

13. The Partners commend the International Road Federation’s India Chapter (IRF- IC) for their untiring efforts for over 15 years in furthering the road safety agenda in India by engaging in road safety activities across the country, advocating increased commitment of both Public and Private stakeholders through fostering collaborations at all levels.
By signing this Coalition for Road Safety Agreement, all partners demonstrate their commitment of working together towards the common goal of reducing road accidents and creating safer road environments.
