Ahmedabad, GLS University’s Faculty of Commerce, in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), successfully organized an essay writing competition under the auspices of the Arthshashtra (Economics Club) to mark HPCL’s Vigilance Week 2024 on 30th September, 2024. The theme of this competition, “Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity,” invited students to reflect on the significance of honesty and transparency in fostering a progressive society. The event was held with great enthusiasm on the university campus and aimed to encourage young minds to understand and appreciate the value of integrity in both individual lives and the broader societal context.

The essay writing competition was a part of HPCL’s ongoing Vigilance Week celebrations, observed annually to promote public awareness about the importance of ethical behavior and transparency. By partnering with GLS University, HPCL aimed to tap into the intellectual potential of students and engage them in a conversation on how cultivating a culture of integrity can contribute significantly to the development and prosperity of the nation. Such initiatives are critical in creating awareness among future leaders and professionals about the pressing need for ethical conduct across all sectors of society.

The event saw the participation of selected students of the Faculty of Commerce, all eager to express their views on the theme. Each participant brought a unique perspective to the table, exploring the role of integrity in governance, business, and personal life, and connecting it to the larger goal of national prosperity. The diversity of thoughts showcased the creativity and deep understanding that students have about the crucial role of honesty and ethics in transforming society.

The theme, “Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity,” resonated strongly with the participants, as many discussed how upholding integrity at all levels—be it personal, professional, or institutional—can lead to long-term growth and societal welfare. Students emphasized the idea that integrity is the bedrock of trust, without which no nation can hope to achieve sustainable development. The first prize was awarded to Ms. Lakshya Nahata, whose essay captured the essence of integrity as a driving force for national prosperity by linking ethical behavior to India’s socio-economic goals. Her thought-provoking insights into how integrity can combat corruption and promote inclusive growth earned her accolades from the judges. The second prize went to Ms. Sneha Kothari, who emphasized the role of youth in shaping an integrity-driven future. The third prize was claimed by Ms. Bansari Gajjar , who presented a compelling argument about the importance of ethics in business and governance.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Suman Raj, the Vigilance Officer from HPCL, highlighted the significance of Vigilance Week and the company’s commitment to promoting transparency and accountability. He appreciated the enthusiasm of the students and emphasized how such activities can inspire young minds to adopt ethical practices in their professional and personal lives.
