From Profiles to Professionalism: GLS Faculty of Commerce Leads Students into the Era of Digital Employability
The session began with a compelling insight—“At some point in life, each of you will either be an employer, an employee, or both”—inviting students to reflect on their future roles in the professional world. Using updated statistics from the Union Labour Ministry and CMIE (Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy), the speaker discussed the reality of India’s rising unemployment and underemployment.
The insightful session commenced with Mr Abhishek explaining the importance of having an accessible, strong and comprehensive linkedin profile which would open the door to a myriad of possibilities . In the era of globalisation and digitalization , every company, before recruiting candidates undertakes a tech-enabled screening process as a personal interview of mere fifteen to thirty minutes is not enough.
The session’s primary objectives were to optimize students’ profiles, emphasize the importance of personal branding, teach effective networking strategies, showcase relevant skills, and promote professional online etiquette. Throughout the session, key skills required for LinkedIn profile setup were emphasized, including strong writing abilities, effective communication, personal branding development, attention to detail, networking aptitude, and basic digital literacy.
To help bridge the gap between academic qualifications and employability, the expert emphasized the importance of two things:
- Skill-building, and
- Accessibility of one’s profile at the right place and time.
From here, the session transitioned into a hands-on walkthrough of LinkedIn profile optimization—covering how to structure headlines, summaries, experiences, skills, projects, and achievements for maximum visibility and credibility.
One of the session’s highlights was the integration of Generative AI tools. Students were shown how to:
- Find relevant jobs, internships, volunteering opportunities and free certificate courses using the right prompts.
- Use AI tools smartly to prepare for interviews, create resumes, draft cold emails, and research industry insights.
- Craft prompting strategies to make AI a personal career coach and productivity assistant.
Students left the session empowered to enhance their digital visibility, leverage AI tools smartly, and pursue career paths with confidence, clarity and curiosity. The entire session was coordinated by the event managers under the guidance of Dr. Aashal Bhatt and Dr. Bhumika Ansodaria.
