The event brought together two illustrious alumni of the Faculty of Commerce:
- Mr. Kamlesh Karamchandani, Executive Director of HyFun Foods, who scaled the company to 40 countries and a revenue of 1500 Crores in just 10 years.
- Mr. Parth Bharat Thakkar, the heartbeat of Gujarati music and a Bollywood composer, known for his acclaimed works in films like Bey Yaar, Chhello Divas, Love Ni Bhavai, Sharato Lagu, Gujjubhai The Great and songs such as Madhuro Darudo, Hokaliyo, Mann Melo, Rang Morla, Meera Ne Madhav No Raas.
The audience, filled with enthusiastic students, witnessed a vibrant exchange of experiences, values, and life lessons from two alumni who represent very different industries—business and music—yet share the common thread of discipline, resilience, and passion.
Highlights of the Session
- Reflections on College Life:
Both speakers fondly recalled their time at the Faculty of Commerce. They emphasized how their academic foundation and campus experiences built their confidence, networking skills, and perseverance. Parth Thakkar shared that even though he was already an established musician when he joined college, the exposure to diverse peers and faculty shaped his personality beyond music. - Lessons Beyond the Classroom:
Mr. Karamchandani noted how case studies, classroom discussions and his participation in activities beyond classroom prepared him to deal with real-world challenges in entrepreneurship. He stressed that adaptability and quick problem-solving, often tested in student life, became key to navigating the uncertainties of business. - Turning Points & Calling:
Parth Thakkar revealed that getting a music contract for background score in a Gujarati serial at the age of 10 affirmed that music was his true calling. For Mr. Karamchandani, it was the scaling-up phase of HyFun Foods, when his vision transformed from a family business to an international brand. - Common Habits for Success:
Despite belonging to different fields, both agreed that discipline, consistency, and passion were non-negotiables. Parth added that daily creating a new tune keeps his creativity alive, while Kamlesh highlighted the role of time management and planning in sustaining growth. - Handling Failures & Setbacks:
Both guests candidly shared that failures are inevitable. Parth spoke about his various experiences with known directors and composers which didn’t end on a positive note and how they taught him humility and reinvention. Kamlesh mentioned various overseas deals specially during Covid that were extremely difficult to manage, but those setbacks became valuable lessons in consumer behaviour and innovation. Covid times even led to an innovative business idea of a Face Sanitizer, which inspite of all investments and initial success, gradually dried down after Covid. - Advice to Youth:
- Parth Thakkar: “Don’t be afraid to follow your passion. Risks are scary, but regrets are scarier.”
- Kamlesh Karamchandani: “Entrepreneurship or creativity—both demand consistency. Small daily efforts compound into extraordinary success. “Always make it a habit to reflect on the work you’ve done today and plan ahead for tomorrow. That reflection and preparation is what drives growth.”
- Golden Takeaway:
The talk show concluded with both guests reminding students that while opportunities may come and go, character, discipline, and resilience are the real success multipliers.
