Postmaster General inaugurates ‘Philately Day’ at Ahmedabad GPO during National Postal Week

Ahmedabad, Stamps are the carriers of a nation’s civilization, culture, and heritage. That is why stamps are referred to as ‘little ambassadors. Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav express these views as chief guest in the programme organized on Philately Day on October 8 at Ahmedabad GPO, as part of National Postal Week celebrations.

On this occasion, students from various schools visited the Philately Bureau to learn about stamps. They were given detailed information about the Philately Deposit Account, My Stamp, DeenDayalSparsh Scholarship Scheme, and the “DhaiAakhar” letter writing competition. Under the My Stamp initiative, people can now have their photos on stamps.

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav stated that under an innovative initiative,Department of Postsis opening Philately Clubs in various schools to develop students’ interest in stamp collecting. This initiative would also benefit students’ education. During this financial year, 11 Philately Clubs have already been opened in the North Gujarat region.

In addressing the students, Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav remarked that philately is known as the “King of Hobbies and Hobby of Kings,” allowing enthusiasts to collect stamps on various subjects. He also said that while the youth today favor social media, it is essential for children to connect with philately, as it significantly enhances their general knowledge.

Chief Postmaster of Ahmedabad GPO Shri Govind Sharma said that a Philately Deposit Account can be opened for just Rs. 200/- and receive stamps conveniently at home. Efforts are being made to encourage people to take advantage of this opportunity.

Deputy Chief Postmaster Shri Alpesh Shah mentioned thaton this occasion, a “DhaiAakhar” letter writing competition was also held, where students from various schools enthusiastically participated by writing letters on the theme “The Joy of Writing: The Importance of Letters in the Digital Age.”

The event was attended by Chief Postmaster of Ahmedabad GPO Shri Govind Sharma, Deputy Chief Postmaster Shri Alpesh Shah, Deputy Superintendent of City Division, Ahmedabad Shri V.M. Vahora, Assistant Director Shri M.M. Shaikh, Assistant Superintendent Shri Ronak Shah, and many others.
