Sports Authority of India and Glenmark Aquatic Foundation Launch Third Swimming Centre
New facility in Gandhinagar to focus on development swimming for young athletes
Ahmedabad, August 29, 2024 – The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Glenmark Aquatic Foundation (GAF) have announced the opening of their third joint centre for swimming training. The MOU was signed today in Delhi, coinciding with National Sports Day, marking a significant expansion of their successful partnership in nurturing swimming talent across India.
In a continued effort to elevate the standard of swimming in India, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Glenmark Aquatic Foundation (GAF) have once again collaborated to establish their third swimming training centre. This latest centre, located at the prestigious Netaji Subhash Western Centre in Gandhinagar, is set to become a hub for nurturing young swimming talent across the country. The centre will primarily focus on the development of swimmers between the ages of 6 and 14, providing them with world-class training facilities and expert coaching. The program will be designed and mentored by Mr. Ian Els a South African coach with proven credentials in development coaching.
Ms. Neha Saldanha, Founder of Glenmark Aquatic Foundation, added, ” We are thrilled to expand our partnership with SAI with the launch of this new centre in Gandhinagar. Our focus on young swimmers ensures that we are laying a strong foundation for the future of swimming in India. With the right training and guidance, we are confident that these young athletes will rise to become the champions of tomorrow.”
A Commitment to Youth Development and Excellence
The new centre in Gandhinagar will offer a specialized program tailored to the needs of young swimmers, ensuring that they receive the best possible start in their aquatic careers. The program will emphasize foundational skills, technique refinement, and physical conditioning, all while fostering a love for the sport and following the globally accepted Long term Athlete Development Model. By focusing on swimmers aged 6 to 14, the centre aims to identify and nurture potential talent from an early age, providing them with a pathway to elite-level competition.
The new centre join the existing facilities at the SAIGAF National Centre of Excellence at Dr. SPM Swimming Complex in New Delhi and LNCPE Thiruvananthapuram. The success of the existing centres in New Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram has paved the way for this expansion. These facilities have already produced notable improvements in the performance of young Indian swimmers at various national and international competitions.
SAI expressed their enthusiasm for the project, stating, ” The Sports Authority of India is proud to partner once again with Glenmark Aquatic Foundation in our shared mission to develop swimming talent across the nation. This new centre in Gandhinagar represents our commitment to providing young athletes with the best resources and training environments. We believe that investing in the future of our young swimmers will yield tremendous results for Indian sports on the global stage.”
