Maruti Suzuki Achieves Annual Production Milestone of 2 Million Units

New Delhi, For the first time, Maruti Suzuki India has surpassed the production milestone of 2 million vehicles in a calendar year, setting a record for both the company and India’s automotive industry. This achievement also makes Maruti Suzuki the first among Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global facilities to reach this milestone in passenger vehicle manufacturing.

The two-millionth vehicle rolled out from the Manesar facility in Haryana was an Ertiga MPV. Of the total vehicles produced this year, around 60% came from the Haryana plants, while 40% were manufactured at Suzuki Motor Gujarat. The Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, Wagon R, and Brezza emerged as the top-produced models in 2024.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, remarked, “This milestone reflects India’s potential in manufacturing and highlights our commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. It demonstrates our collective efforts with supplier and dealer partners to advance India’s automotive sector and contribute to nation-building. We are deeply grateful to our customers, employees, and partners for their support in this journey.”

Maruti Suzuki currently operates three production facilities in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and Gujarat (Hansalpur), with a combined annual capacity of 2.35 million units. To meet increasing demand, the company plans to expand its capacity to 4 million units annually.

A new greenfield plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana, is under construction, with its first phase expected to become operational in 2025. This facility will eventually have the capacity to produce 1 million units per year. Maruti Suzuki is also planning another greenfield plant with a similar capacity and is scouting for a suitable location.

Maruti Suzuki, which accounts for nearly 40% of India’s passenger vehicle exports, has seen growing demand in international markets. Between April and November 2024, the company exported 208,411 units, a year-on-year increase of 18%. This figure already represents 74% of its record export sales of 280,712 units in FY2024, positioning the company to maintain its title as India’s leading passenger vehicle exporter for the fourth consecutive fiscal year.
