FORTIFYING FINTECH: INSIGHTS FROM CYBER SECURITY EXPERTS

Ahmedabad, The Faculty of Commerce at GLS University organized a seminar on Cyber Security for its B.Com.[Fintech Batch] students on 17th September 2024. The seminar was designed to address the specific needs of commerce and fintech students, with a focus on how cyber security impacts the rapidly evolving financial technology landscape.

The session was led by prominent speakers CA Abhijeet Javia, Mr. Amal Suresh, and Mr. Abhay Dhamne. Their aim was to educate students on the growing importance of cyber security in today’s digital world, highlighting the increasing threats faced by organizations and the methods available to protect sensitive data from cyber-attacks.

Mr. Abhijeet opened the seminar with a foundational explanation of cyber security, emphasizing its role in protecting systems, networks, and data from malicious cyber-attacks. He discussed various types of cyber threats, such as phishing, malware, ransomware, and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, providing real-life examples of how these have affected global corporations.

He stressed the importance of raising awareness about security vulnerabilities and underscored the need for developing a robust cyber security framework to defend against potential attacks.

Mr. Amal addressed the increasingly sophisticated nature of cyber threats, explaining how cybercriminal groups and hackers exploit common vulnerabilities. Through case studies, he highlighted how outdated software, weak passwords, and poor security practices lead to data breaches and financial losses. His talk underscored the pressing need for organizations to be vigilant and constantly update their security measures to stay ahead of cybercriminals.

Mr. Abhay Dhamne shared strategies for mitigating cyber risks. He emphasized the importance of creating strong passwords, incorporating special characters to make them nearly impossible to crack, and regularly updating them. He also recommended implementing firewalls, anti-malware software, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and encryption technologies to enhance data security.

The seminar provided students with valuable insights into the critical role of cyber security in safeguarding digital infrastructure, particularly in the fintech sector. The speakers effectively communicated the importance of adopting a proactive approach to security rather than waiting to respond after an attack occurs. The responsibility for maintaining cyber security was emphasized as a shared duty of both organizations and individuals.

The event was expertly coordinated by CA Dr. Sneha Master and concluded with an engaging Q&A session where students interacted with the speakers and explored practical solutions to cyber security challenges in the fintech domain.
