The NEP is being implemented in its entirety at Central University of Gujarat

The National Education Policy is paving the way for quality education and holistic development: Prof. Rama Shanker Dubey

On the completion of three years of the National Education Policy, a press conference was organized at Central University of Gujarat.

The National Education Policy is working towards utilizing the country’s rich talent and resources in higher education institutions to contribute to the development of individuals, society, and the nation. India has the world’s largest young population, and providing quality educational opportunities to its youth is essential for realizing the vision of a self-reliant India.

The National Education Policy 2020 has provided a strong foundation for transforming this vision into reality. It aims to ensure inclusive and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities, thus empowering individuals with the necessary skills. Central university of Gujarat has successfully implemented many key aspects of NEP 2020. On the completion of three years of the National Education Policy, a press conference was organised at Central university of Gujarat on Wednesday.

Prof. Rama Shanker Dubey, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, stated that comprehensive education is the key to the holistic development of individuals. He informed that in the past three years, the university has implemented many key points of the National Education Policy, which include the following:

Inclusion of Comprehensive Education: It is essential for students to receive not only academic knowledge but also an enhancement in their physical, mental, emotional, moral, and social knowledge for comprehensive education. Central University of Gujarat has introduced a two-credit course for undergraduate and postgraduate students in each semester. With this initiative, students are not only gaining knowledge of their curriculum but also receiving comprehensive education.

16 Multidisciplinary Two-Credit Programs: The Central university of Gujarat has also introduced multidisciplinary programs as part of minor electives. These programs offer 16 different subject options in short elective courses. Each program carries a weightage of 2 credits. The Vice-Chancellor mentioned that students are opting for these multidisciplinary programs based on their interests.

Learning Management System (LMS): Besides classroom-based learning, the university has implemented its own Learning Management System (LMS) to promote online learning. Under credit transfer, students have already registered on the ‘Swayam’ portal. Prof. Dubey mentioned that students are choosing online courses and studying subjects of their preference.

Facility of DigiLocker: Students have been provided with a digital account in the cloud to securely store their academic mark sheets and other valid documents or certificates. All students of the university have opened their accounts and are using it to upload their documents, with storage capacity up to one GB for each account.

Multidisciplinary Certificate and Diploma Courses: The University has started multidisciplinary certificate and diploma courses that complement the format of degree courses. Many students are opting for these courses along with their degree studies.

Research and Development Cell: To promote research and innovation in higher education, the university has established a Research and Development Cell. This cell provides valuable information and research-oriented resources to scholars and students, enabling them to address socially relevant research dimensions and find solutions to problems during their higher studies.

Teaching and learning in Regional Languages: According to the policy, support for Indian languages is essential, and their development in the field of education needs to be encouraged. This aims to promote the preservation and usage of languages. Central university of Gujarat has started teaching and learning in regional languages.

Post-Graduation in Hindu Studies: In the year 2022, the university has also started a post graduation degree course in Hindu Studies.
