Vedanta’ First-Ever Tailoring Training Centre in Gujarat Set to Usher in Lasting Transformation

Ahmedabad ,With the aim of empowering women through vocational opportunities & skilling, Vedanta Sesa Coke has set up the first-ever Vedanta Tailoring Training Centre, under the aegis of the Vedanta Foundation, at Rameshwar Nagar, Lunva for women & girls of the village and surrounding areas.

The inauguration ceremony of the Vedanta Tailoring Training Centre was graced by Shri Ravabhai Chhanga, Shri Velabhai Jivabhai Chhanga, community leaders from Lunva, in the presence of Mr. T Vimal Raj, CEO, Sesa Coke, Mr. Adhip Pai-Head, Sesa Coke Bhachau amongst other officials from the unit.

The newly-setup VTTC will be providing a three-months long certificate course in tailoring for women, certified by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Training for the first batch, comprising 23 women from Lunva Village is scheduled to begin on 3rd October’24, on the first day of Navratri.

Shri Bhurabhai Ravabhai Chhanga, VP Sarpanch, Lunva said “The initiative marks a significant step towards empowering the women of our community, With the inauguration of the Vedanta Tailoring Training Centre, Sesa Coke has provided a platform for women to acquire valuable skills that will enable them to become financially independent. This initiative will not only uplift individual households but will also contribute to the overall development of the village. We are proud to witness the positive change that it will bring to the lives of so many women.”

Shri Ravabhai Chhanga, Former V.P Sarpanch, Lunva Village acknowledged the efforts of the unit to set up the tailoring centre, & expressed that in today’s world, vocational skills & education are equally important to succeed in life. He was hopeful that more and more women from Lunva Village and beyond will benefit from the initiative.

During the course, the women will be taught basic to advanced tailoring skills with the unit also planning to organise awareness sessions for the women to equip them with entrepreneurial skills, to aid them to start their own tailoring businesses & helping them stand on their own feet, financially.

Speaking on the occasion, T Vimal Raj, CEO-Sesa Coke stated, “At Vedanta, we believe that we can play a significant role in #TransformingCommunities & partnering them in realising their aspirations and fuelling their progress. Our initiatives have so far helped transform the lives of over 1 lakh families in various states across India and today marks the first step of our CSR initiative in this area, and I am proud that this centre is dedicated to empowering women through skilling & eventual financial independence. This training centre will not only allow them to contribute economically to their households but also provide them with confidence, autonomy and the ability to build a better future for their families.”

The Vedanta Tailoring Training Centre (VTTC) in Lunva marks the sixth such centre established by Vedanta Sesa Goa, with four other centres successfully operating in Karnataka and one in Maharashtra. These tailoring centres are a testament to Vedanta’s commitment to creating opportunities for local communities across India. So far 250+ women have gained certification and benefitted from the opportunities arising from the initiative.

Vedanta Sesa Coke Gujarat has also regularly partnered with the local communities to drive sustainable development with initiatives such as regular plantation drives and health check-up camps with the aim of contributing to the holistic development & progress of the community.
