Manthan- an Elocution Competition at GLS University
Ahmedabad, GLS University’s Faculty of Commerce under the auspice of the Speaker’s Forum- Speak to lead organized the finale of its annual literary competition- MANTHAN- A thought provoking mission on 17th December, 2024.
“Death is the second fear that people have and Public speaking is the First!”….. These words remained with the audience and the participants throughout the elocution competition, a two tier competition- a knock- out round and a finale which was conducted on 13th December,2024. The knock-out round had over 50 participants from both the Bachelors and the Masters programme in an inter class manner and the top students from each class were a part of the finale. The finale had a total of 29 participants who delivered their speech on the following topics:
1.Is Social Media Revolutionizing or Damaging Human Communication?
2.Women in Business: Breaking Barriers in the Corporate World
3.The Art of Networking: Building Social Skills for Professional Growth
4.Overcoming Procrastination: A Student’s Greatest Challenge
To make it convenient for all the participants, they were allowed to speak in three languages- English, Hindi and Gujarati. The participants not only showcased their exceptionally well-versed vocabulary but also voiced their opinions. The competition was judged by Ms. Sonjuhi Succena, an alumnus of Faculty of Commerce.
This competition helped the students to overcome their stage fear by enhancing their public speaking skills. It was a brilliant opportunity for all the students to gain confidence by performing on the stage. All the participants performed well with adherence to all the rules and won the hearts of the audience with their confidence, content and their stage presence.
They exhibited perfect nuances and finer points that made their speeches interesting and captivating. The poise, zeal and praiseworthy articulation delivered by the participants with brilliant confidence and their dedication to this event made the whole experience memorable to all.
The judge gave individual feedback to all the participants which was a culmination of points like entry and exit of the students on the stage, speech content, presentation style, voice modulation, clarity of speech, expression, dressing sense, coordination, communication and overall skills. This was followed by the valedictory function to celebrate the victory of the winners of the Elocution Competition held under the banner of MANTHAN – A thought provoking mission.
The first position was bagged by Dhvani Pandya. The second position was secured by Ashwin Soni & Urshita Gajjar. The third position was bagged by Alisha Lakhani & Vanshika Pancholi. The winners were awarded with certificates of merit to commemorate their achievements. The event was managed by the student committee under the guidance of Dr. Bhumika Ansodaria and Dr. Gitanjali Rampal.
